My cat, Mica, can go anywhere she wants in our two-story home. But, OF COURSE, this afternoon she chose to plant herself on the poster board I plan to use for my first mass protest rally in…well, let’s not try to do the math. I am assuming she is adding her mellow cat energy to our protest, which is committed to non-violence. So, thanks, Mica.
That protest is the Hands Off rally organized by 50501, which stands for 50 (at least) NON-VIOLENT rallies in all 50 states for 1 purpose–to protect our country, our people, and our world from policies that we feel are not in alignment with our values, or even our laws. For more information, you can see my first Shock and Activate post about this at: https://blissfullu.com/2025/03/19/save-the-date-april-5-is-a-nonviolent-national-demonstration-in-support-of-the-constitution/
One of my spiritual principles is to be for something, against nothing. My son and I have a lot of arguments about whether that is the same thing, but to me, to be for something has totally different energy than being against something. So for me, this protest is NOT against President Trump, against DOGE, against Elon Musk or name your least favorite person in the Administration. For me, this protest is standing up for what we care about–fair elections, LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights, clean air, professional librarians being able to pick the books in the library, Medicare and Social Security, and so much more. The recommended response to the Administration’s Shock and Awe approach (I wrote about it here: https://blissfullu.com/2025/01/28/are-you-upset-about-the-news-lately-its-time-to-shock-and-activate/) is for each of us to concentrate on a few issues, because otherwise we become overwhelmed and just give up. So I love that this protest allows us all to focus on our specific issues but includes everyone’s issues.
I’m a YES for all of the issues listed above. However, my biggest issues (maybe because Government was my minor in college after Philosophy) are around foundational Governmental principles. I am, Number One, protesting in support of the Constitution. I am protesting in support of the Rule of Law. I am protesting in support of Fair Elections. I care about ALL of the other issues, but my primary commitment is to restore our government following the rules of The Constitution/the Law, which this Administration is ignoring and challenging and acting without regard to our governmental history.
So if you disagree with the current Administration, will you be there–there being wherever is close to you because there are lots of rallies across the country–on April 5? Whether you are or are not, what is the number one issue for you about what this Administration is not supporting? Please add your answers in the comments below.
