I believe Labor Day is SUPPOSED to celebrate the working people in our country. And when I think of a current artist who celebrates the working class, I think of Bruce Springsteen. I’ve included him before in my Motivational Music Mondays (see the link below).
Here are things that I love about Bruce Springsteen, besides his wonderful music. He was born in Jersey; he has stayed in Jersey. He has always supported his community, contributing money and his talents to raise more from others when his state has been hit with tragedies like Hurricane Sandy and 9/11. He as spoken out about his political beliefs (see the link below).
But on this Labor Day, one of the the things that I honor Bruce Springsteen and his family for, is in this era of “Nepo Babies” (children getting music, acting, modeling, etc. jobs because of the fame of their parents)…Springsteen’s youngest son is a fire fighter.
Being a fire fighter is not necessarily better than being a model. But one of the most financially successful musicians in this country was able to raise a child who grew up to believe that being a fire fighter was not inferior to being a rock star.
So I chose this song for all of us laborers, of whom I include myself as a public school teacher, who still believe in the American Dream.
