Celebrate National Voter Registration Day by Checking your Voter Registration, ESPECIALLY if You Live in North Carolina

One of the greatest rights of an American citizen is the ability to vote. But you can only vote if you are registered.

Today, Tuesday September 16, is National Voter Registration Day. So I urge everyone to celebrate this holiday by checking their voter registration status. Even if you registered years ago and have voted in every election since then…well, stuff can happen. It only takes a minute or two to make sure, so why not? I checked early for this blog post, and discovered that yes, my registration is still valid. But still, it gives me a little extra “buzz” just knowing that for sure. And if you know someone who isn’t registered, or isn’t sure, please encourage them to take action now before we are election madness.

For more information, you can visit: https://nationalvoterregistrationday.org

This is particularly important for my fellow citizens in North Carolina. In case you didn’t know, part of the Republican strategy to prevent the election of Allison Riggs to the NC Supreme Court, loser Jefferson Griffin tried to get the courts to throw out “broken” voter registrations (incomplete information, maybe a couple of numbers in the Social Security number switched, etc.)…but only in Democratic districts, of course. Griffin lost, but the Republican-dominated legislature later passed a law that in future elections, such votes could be thrown out.

So don’t take a chance. Go to https://www.ncsbe.gov/registering/checking-your-registration to ensure you are registered. And if there is a problem, there is information on the website about how to fix a “broken” registration.

At least here in Cary, we have municipal elections coming up on in less than two months (November 4). Early voting starts a month from tomorrow. So just go ahead and check it now so you know you will be able to vote when the time comes.

AND…if you happen to live in the Triangle NC region, the INDY Week 2025 Election Coverage is a great place to learn about the candidates running in Durham, Orange, and Wake County. I read their information about the Town Council candidates running in Cary, and I know who I’m voting for! Check it out by clicking HERE.
