Ever since the Loving Forward Together rally organized by Rev. William Barber on Valentines Day, I’ve been all about the Storge.
That even was all about pursuing progressive political activism but with love instead of hate, with positivity instead of negativity. Rev. Barber asked us what we love enough to fight for, rather than asking what current political policies are we against. And I can tell you, as hard as these times are right now, acting from love is easier, feels better, and ultimately more effective…or so I believe.
Storge is one of several words for love in the Greek language. While is primarily used to speak of familial love (between parent and child, grandparents and grandchildren, siblings, etc.) it is also extended to the relationship between the people and their country. The concept of national Storge is that people should love their country and that the leaders who represent and/or run the country should love their people–all of their people, not just the ones who look or believe or vote like them.
So I published a post about the rally and Storge last Tuesday (https://blissfullu.com/2026/02/17/a-storge-valentines-day/). The very next day, U2 released a new song that I felt was the perfect anthem for Storge (not that they used that word of course). But it expresses what I feel about Storge and the US learning to love each other again, it really felt like they had written it just for me.
I hope you find it as motivational as I do.
