We Are Living “Wag the Dog”

The State of the Union address was just on Tuesday night. President Trump stated that if Iran tried to again create new nuclear weapons after Operation Midnight Hammer destroyed the existing ones (supposedly) “Can’t let that happen.” But he didn’t say anything that made it sound like Iran was an imminent danger to the US. So what happened? If Iranian nuclear engineers can go from a nuclear program that was “obliterated” (what President Trump told us at the time) to having weapons that could reach the US itself, all in just over six months, then we should HIRING them, not killing them. But I find the claim dubious.

But two things I know DID happen recently. On the morning of the State of the Union address, NPR reported that independent journalist Roger Sollenberger discovered that 53 pages of the Epstein files were missing. All 53 apparently contained data about an accusation that President Trump sexually assaulted a 13 year old girl. Also the day before that, CBS News reported that a another document just discovered in the Epstein files indicates that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was investigating Jeffrey Epstein and fourteen other people for drug trafficking, prostitution, and money laundering–a totally separate case from the sex trafficking case that has gotten most of the attention so far. When Congress demanded to see the files on this other case, the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, refused to release them, even to the US Legislative Branch on a confidential basis.

So if the whole War with Iran wasn’t disturbing enough (see my post https://blissfullu.com/2026/02/28/opposed-to-the-combat-in-iran-let-congree-know/ for my top 5 concerns), it means we’ve left the realm of reality and ventured into what used to be fiction. We are now living the real-world version of the 1997 movie, Wag the Dog.

In that movie, the US President had been caught in a sex scandal about two weeks before the election in which he was running for a second term. His “spin doctors” decide to fabricate a war so that American voters would be distracted from the sex scandal and decide to rally behind the existing “Commander in Chief” due to the war.

I have always loved that movie. But never in my wildest imagination did I believe an elected American President would try to pull that off. Just when I think President Trump couldn’t shock me any more than he already has, he does something even more outrageous.

The movie is a satirical comedy. The Iran war is a tragedy, because this sex scandal President illegally launched a REAL war killing REAL people to distract us from his heinous behavior. Nothing significant about Iran changed last week. But these new charges, discovered by independent journalists, were significantly bad developments for the President.

I believe that is why we are suddenly at war with Iran.

I urge everyone to contact their US Senators and Representative and demand that Congress take action about this. President Trump would never had tried this if the Republican majority in the US Congress had stood up to all the ways he is taking away their powers established in the Constitution –such as the powers to set tariffs, the power to decide what money should be allocated to different federal programs or institutions, and the power to declare war. We would not be in this war if the Republican leaders hadn’t abdicated their roles and responsibilities to President Trump. But this is too much. All American citizens should let their US leaders know that we expect them to do their jobs.

If you are unfamiliar with the movie, here is its original trailer:
