Sorry, late. I’m saying its a Holi edition, but mostly it’s a reference to last week’s George Harrison song (see it at https://blissfullu.com/2026/03/02/motivational-music-monday-peace-on-earth-edition/).
This is the only video I ever watch from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, both Prince and George Harrison were inducted into this honor. George Harrison had died, but his son, Dhani Harrison, performed in his place with major musicians: Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Steve Winwood. Prince was supposed to do the guitar solos in the middle of the song and at the end, but, according to the stories, Jeff Lynne did them instead during the rehearsal. Prince said Lynne could do the the middle solo and he would do the end, but it was not rehearsed. Supposedly, the producers were not comfortable with that, but Prince was not someone you could insist to stick to your agenda. So they trusted he would perform.
And perform he did.
Again, according to stories, Rolling Stone magazine had recently released a list of the top 100 best Rock and Roll guitar players, and Prince was not on the list. And apparently Prince was,,,,not happy. So it perhaps he took his final solo on the song to prove them wrong. And honestly…I think he did.
And years later, when Rolling Stone did another best rock and roll guitar players list….they had Prince at #14.
I love this song, and I love the Prince solo. But what I really, really love is how happy Dhani Harrison looks during this performance. Maybe he is loving playing with musicians of this caliber. Maybe he is loving the celebration of his father. Maybe he is loving what Prince is doing with the song. Maybe he is channeling his father and knowing to enjoy the experience of the moment.
So this video of this song always brings me joy. I hope it does for you as well. But the lyrics are also very uplifting. So don’t get so caught up in the performances to miss the significance of the song itself. George Harrison was the one among the Beatles who really took up the practices of Hinduism. So his songs are the best songs I know from my culture to celebrate Hindu holidays
Happy Holi!
