This week we lost a wonderful singer, Mr. Kenny Rogers. While he wasn’t my FAVORITE musician, I did like him and I grew up with his music. I was never a card player, but I thought his lyrics to “The Gambler” were wonderful directions about life in general:
You’ve got to know when to hold ’em
Know when to fold ’em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you’re sittin’ at the table
There’ll be time enough for countin’
When the dealin’s doneEvery gambler knows
That the secret to survivin’
Is knowin’ what to throw away
And knowin’ what to keep
‘Cause every hand’s a winner
And every hand’s a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die
in your sleep
He is also special to me because one of my great mentors chose one of his songs to represent me. So I close with this video of him performing this song that someone special to me dedicated to me:
