As I said last week, one of the greatest things I’ve done in the past few weeks was to watch the DPAC/Broadway Touring production of the latest revival of The Wiz. It is actually a great metaphor for our times. In The Wizard of Oz, things start out pretty dark (in the movie, black and white). There is unhappiness, a beloved dog taken away, a tornado, and a death. Dorothy is trying to get back home, but there are many threats and dangers and scary things. But in the end, she realizes she didn’t appreaciate the good that she had. She stands up to the darker sides of things, and ultimately prevails. To me, that’s a great story for our current situation.
So I send this beautiful song from The Wiz to my blog community. I hope it inspires you during a time when many feel helpless to embrace the idea you are greater than you know. I also love it because it is a song of community, of trying to empower each other to claim our highest selves. I hope it will be a ripple among my readers where we pass this wonderful message on to others in our lives…as well as allowing into our own consciousness.
