Motivational Music Monday: Hunchback Edition

Sorry that it has been so long since my last post. All I can say is that there is a lot going on in my life and in my country and in my work and I just haven’t been able to write much lately.

But I did have a break last week and a friend and I went to see the musical of The Hunchback of Notre Dame presented by a local theater here, Theatre Raleigh. Much of the music came from the musical film Disney created of this classic French novel. I never saw that movie, and couldn’t really imagine how Disney could create a family-friendly version of a book that is so grim.

I’ve really enjoyed the previous shows I’ve seen at Theatre Raleigh, so I got these tickets months ago when they were first announced. Not only was I interested in seeing a musical version of this book, but they were staging it at an actual church. We weren’t allowed to take pictures during the performance, but here is the picture of the place in which it was performed, as well as a picture of the outside of the church.

It was a wonderful show, and I’m so glad I got to see it.

But I was struck by one song in the show. I remember loving it when I heard it in the 80’s? 90’s? I’m not sure. It was a long time ago and was sung by some group I liked. I don’t think I ever knew it came from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. But I loved it then, and I love it now. I think it’s a great song of hope about better things coming. I have faith that day will be sooner rather than later. As Reverend Barber reminded us during the Loving Forward Together rally in February, we shall overcome someday.

Enjoy:
