Well, I’m still processing all the events of January 6 and beyond. In the meantime, however, we have one final Inaugural Poem to enjoy before the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris next week. I actually had my high school students analyze this poem on January 5, the day before the madness struck. This … More Inauguration Poetic Countdown: One Week
This was supposed to be the post for yesterday, which is the two week countdown to the inauguration of Joe Biden as President and Kamal Harris as Vice President. However, it did not seem appropriate as misguided Americans were assaulting the Capitol, which is pictured above as the traditional location for the Inauguration. Now that … More The 12-ish Days of Christmas: Poetic Inauguration Countdown––Two Weeks
(Sorry, I had a class and other things that came up last night (cough cough GEORGIA cough), so I didn’t get around to finishing this post. However, it is such an important one I wanted to make sure that I did share it.) For me, one of the greatest gifts of 2020, UNDER the circumstances, … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020: Teachers and Students
It’s Meatless Monday again, but I’m not sharing a recipe because we had leftover mash-up (vegetarian, and earth-friendly because it is using up food we’ve already cooked). But looking back at 2020, I have to say that I’m really grateful to the Instant Pot for its contributions to our meals this year. I got an … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020: The Instant Pot
For those of you who read my post about how Wonder Woman 1984 eased my grief at not being able to go home this holiday because it captured the Washington DC essence so much better than SO MANY films–well, now I’ve got backup. The Washington Post published an article today entitled:“Wonder Woman 1984’ is a … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020: Wonder Woman 1984 UPDATE
I took this picture with my iPhone this morning (so sorry for the mediocre quality). It was a red tailed hawk that was looking at me while I was looking at him. We had quite a nice energetic exchange, which inspired me to think about how much I have enjoyed my time with animals during … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020: Animals
So this is the post I planned to post today… If my faith community has supported my spiritual/emotional health, my local farmers market has helped me maintain my physical health. I am so grateful to the farmers and vendors and organizers of our market, the Cary Downtown Farmers Market. I took this picture this morning … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020: Farmers Markets
Happy 2021! Yesterday, besides my New Year’s Day traditions of doing a visioning session with my spiritual center and making a meal of black eyed peas (chili), greens, and cornbread (cookies), I was really into re-reading the book and working on lesson plans for the literature class that I start teaching again next Tuesday. So … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020: Faith Communities
In retrospect, I should have expected that 2020 might not be the healthiest year since when the bells were ringing in the New Year, I heard them from inside the ambulance that was going to bring me to the Emergency Room. I had made the mistake of eating a cookie that I didn’t realize contained … More The 12-ish Gifts of 2020, New Year’s Eve Edition: Fiction, Faith, Food, and HAMILTON
While I know this is not shared by all Americans, for me one of the gifts of 2020 was the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who better represent the leadership I would like to see in this country. Even if you disagree, I hope you can celebrate the country’s long tradition of peaceful … More The 12-ish Days of Christmas: Poetic Inauguration Countdown––Three Weeks
