Yesterday was Grandparents Day in the US. I’m not a grandparent, and my grandparents have passed on. But I’ve been having some conversations and reading a book that is making me think about how important grandparents can be. The book addresses how difficult it is to be a working parent. It makes me think about the school where I teach, and how when I do carpool duty, I see a good number of grandparents being the ones who drop off the children or pick them up before/after school. I know that alone is such a gift to working parents.
So today’s song is not about grandparents, but yet another illustration of the service they provide. It is a video of a performance of the Raging Grannies of Tuolumne & Calaveras (RGTC), located in central California. To me, it’s a fun call to action for us to exercise our most basic right and duty of our jobs as citizens, which is TO VOTE! They are slanted one way, but to me it is critical for our Democracy for as many people to vote as possible, including those who don’t agree with me.
So thanks, Grannies, for your wisdom and guidance and musical inspiration. If you would like more of their videos, check them out at: https://www.youtube.com/@RGTC-2025.
But whether you love the song or not, PLEASE VOTE!
