This one is an obvious one. It honors not only Dolly Parton, who we lost recently, but also Gloria Steinem, who we lost last week. The song itself may not be THAT motivational, but the movie for which it speaks is. Jane Fonda was the moving force behind that movie, and she asked Dolly Parton not only to be one of the main characters, when Dolly had never acted before, but also to write and record the theme song. Yes, it’s kind of a ridiculous movie, but it is all about community and women sticking up for each other, and I think that was reflected in the development of the movie. And Gloria Steinem lauded this song and also Dolly’s Working Girl as anthems for the feminist movement.
So while I think this speakers for all daily workers, I offer this up particularly in honor of these two great leaders that we’ve lost: Dolly Parton and Gloria Steinem.
I’ve enjoyed my day off and hope you have as well…
