In my life and in this blog, I try to be positive. I really do. But it’s hard when our government is doing things that we need to speak out against. I can understand and justifify it in my own mind, but I struggle to present the positive spin on things to others. However, North Carolina has started sending out mail-in voting, and so I want to share my perspective before people send in their ballots.

Here’s the deal:

Voting NO on the NC Consitutional Amendments is actually a positive thing for those of us who believe in things like progressive taxation and local control and support for our local school systems and local services and that we should make it as easy as possible for our military to vote.

I’m going to do a series of posts on each Constitutional Amendment But if you are aligned with the philosophy I’ve consistantly presented in this blog, please just know that NO is the vote that supports the values I discuss regularly.

Here is something important to know. The Republicans in the NC Legislature, which is one of the most gerrymandered states in the country, have been operating under a Supermajority the past two years, where they can pass whatever they want without any Democratic votes, and can overcome the Democractic (currently) Governor’s veto.

Even they don’t think they can retain that power after the midterm elections. Thus, they are posting the things they want as Constitutional Amendments. That means that they can only be undone by another Constitutional Amendment vote, which can’t happen until the next statewide election in 2028.

So this is an example of how your vote matters. I hope you come back for details on each proposed Constitutional Amendments.(All sound good on the surface if you don’t realise the problems they present.)

But if you are voting by mail today, PLEASE VOTE NO ON ALL NC CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS.
