So after months of campaigning, tomorrow is the final national voting day of Election 2026. Like over 50 million other Americans, I voted early. But if you haven’t, I urge you to do so. You don’t have to agree with me. But Democracy works best when we all voice our opinions.
As I’ve said, I’ve been going to the Freedom Friday rallies at 4:00 PM Fridays in downtown Cary, NC, as often as I can. I teach a lot of Fridays, and depending on the school and the assignment, sometimes I can’t get there. But I do when I can.
These rallies are great because someone brings this huge sound system. Even after having taught elementary school for 8+ hours, it always energizes me and I dance and wave and hold up my sign and try to connect with people driving by.
This week’s song is the song the rallies always play as their opening song. Not this version–a recording by the composer/singer Woody Guthrie. His is classic, of course, but I like this modern take on it. It does include some words I don’t use and would prefer not to have in my blog, but…you know, you have to let artists be artists. And while I prefer to be FOR something, not AGAINST something, I think it’s a good reminder that at least over modern history, what they are singing has come true. So maybe it’s an affirmation based in historical fact, not just a negative message.
If you haven’t yet, please vote. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy this video.
