In the best news I’ve heard in quite a while, today that international treasure, J.K. Rowling, announced that she was going to release a new book she has written, a chapter or two at at time, every weekday starting today and running through July 10th. It is a children’s story called The Ickabog, and it has nothing to do with Harry Potter or wizards or magic or anything; it is its own, new world. It was a story that she told to her own children as their bedtime story every night that she never ended up publishing–until now! It is geared to a 7-9 year old reading level, and it is FREE!
Rowling does plan to publish the book in its physical form later this year and to donate her royalties to organizations that have been affected by COVID-19. And if that isn’t wonderful enough, she is giving her young fans an opportunity to contribute their illustrations for the printed book! Children from age 6-12 are invited to submit their artwork to go with each chapter, and a contest will select which ones get published in the book. Isn’t that just a delightful idea?
The first chapters are up, but I’m saving them to read from my own bedtime stories tonight. To read the book or to enter the contest, go to The Ickabog website at: https://www.theickabog.com/home/.
Thank you, J.K. Rowling. I didn’t think you could possibly do anything to make me love you more, but you managed to do it anyway!
